Applications for 2025 are now closed.

Named in loving memory of Jordan River Anderson, the Jordan's Principle Scholarship will be awarded to First Nations students studying children’s holistic health and wellbeing.

Learn more about Jordan and the importance of Jordan's Principle.

We are delighted to announce that two $5,000 scholarships and two $2,500 scholarships are available to assist First Nations students with post-secondary education costs this year. We are grateful to the contributions HANSAmed and Caring Society donors for their generous contributions to the Jordan’s Principle Scholarship.

One of the $5,000 scholarships is made in memory of Joan Glode. Joan was a fierce advocate for First Nations children. We are especially inspired by her longstanding advocacy for Jordan's Principle and ensuring that First Nations children have opportunities to grow up at home.

Application Information

The Jordan's Principle Scholarship is open to First Nations students studying children’s holistic health or wellbeing at a Canadian post-secondary institution. Students must be enrolled full-time (as defined by their school) and must have at least two semesters of school left.

In addition, applications will require the following:

  • Confirmation of First Nations identity.
  • Confirmation of full-time registration at a Canadian post-secondary institution in a program relevant to children’s holistic health or wellbeing. The student must be returning to study for at least two semesters.
  • Demonstrated commitment to First Nations children’s health and community service.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Jordan River Anderson and Jordan’s Principle.
  • Demonstrated academic commitment and achievement.
  • Financial need will be considered.
  • This is a one-time award not renewable to past recipients.

A complete application includes:

  1. Complete application form
  2. A detailed cover letter outlining your knowledge of Jordan’s Principle, why Jordan’s Principle is important, and how your education, personal and/or professional experience prepare you for a career in children’s holistic health and wellbeing.
  3. Confirmation of First Nations identity (letter from a First Nation acknowledging applicant’s membership or copy of status card).
  4. Two letters of recommendation that speak directly and specifically as to how the applicant meets the eligibility criteria.
  5. Copy of high school/post-secondary transcript for most recently completed year of education. The transcript must include a least two semesters.
  6. Confirmation of registration in a program relevant to children’s holistic health or wellbeing at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

Unofficial transcripts and confirmation of registration will be accepted for the application (we are not able to accept screenshots of student portals). If you are selected, the scholarship is conditional on providing official transcripts and official proof of enrolment.

Note: “Children’s holistic health or wellbeing” is intentionally broad. Some programs clearly fit into this, others may be less clearly connected. If the applicant can describe in their cover letter how they will use their education to further children’s health or wellbeing, they are eligible to apply.

Please check your application package carefully. Incomplete applications will not be considered. While we appreciate all applications, as a small organization, we can only contact the successful applicant.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions!
