Raiyah Patel (she/her) was born and raised on the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation (Ottawa, Ontario). Raiyah is currently completing her undergraduate degree in Political Science and Philosophy at the University of Ottawa. Raiyah has worked alongside the Caring Society for the past 14 years. She became involved when she learned about Shannen’s Dream in Grade 2. Since then, she has worked on various campaigns that advocate for First Nations children. She continues to read and learn about reconciliation and Indigenous political theory so that she can be an ally to the Indigenous community. She is honoured to be a member of the Caring Society and to work on educational initiatives and public policy campaigns that support and uplift First Nations communities. Raiyah is also bilingual in English and French.
