The timeline below chronicles the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal case on inequitable funding for First Nations child welfare, which the Tribunal ruled amounts to discrimination.

2025
On March 24, 2025, the Caring Society and AFN filed submissions to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal on positions on the long-term reform of FNCFS and Jordan's Principle.
On March 20 and 21, 2025, seven First Nation groups (Neqotkuk [Tobique] First Nation, Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, Chippewas of Georgina Island, Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, Our Children Our Way Society, Taykwa Tagamou Nation and Council of Yukon First Nation) notified the Tribunal of their intention to seek Interested Party Status in First Nations Child and Family Caring Society et al. v. Attorney General of Canada.
On March 17, 2025, the Caring Society submitted a factum and book of authorities (key legal material) to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal regarding the January 14, 2025, consultation motion on the long-term reform of the First Nations Child & Family Services Program. Canada also submitted a letter to the Tribunal in relation to the same motion.
On March 7, 2025, Nishnawbe Aski Nation and Chiefs of Ontario filed a joint motion to the Tribunal regarding the Final Agreement on Long-Term Reform of the First Nations Child and Family Services Program in Ontario (the “Ontario Final Agreement”) and the Trilateral Agreement in Respect of Reforming the 1965 Agreement.
Canada provides its March 7, 2025, report to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal in keeping with the Tribunal's November 21, 2024 summary ruling.
On March 3, 2025, AFN submits the affidavit of Amber Potts to the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal regarding the long-term reform of the First Nations Child and Family Services Program.
On February 24, 2025, COO and NAN submitted their positions to the Tribunal regarding the long-term reform of the FNCFS Program and timelines for submissions in response to the Caring Society's January 14, 2025 motion.

On February 10, 2025, the Federal Court released an Order sending Canada's judicial review of 2025 CHRT 6 into case management and putting it into abeyance (on pause).
