Cheyenne Lafferty is a Tłı̨chǫ student from Behchokǫ̀, Northwest Territories, currently completing her Bachelor of Education in the Elementary Education program at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education from the University of Alberta and has dedicated much of her education and career to working with children and youth through sport, recreation, education, and community programming.

Cheyenne is passionate about creating learning environments where Indigenous students can see their culture, language, land, and community reflected in their education. Her experiences growing up in the North and working with Indigenous youth have shaped her goal of becoming an educator who supports students in learning from both Indigenous knowledge and Western education.

Through her future teaching practice, Cheyenne hopes to encourage young people to be proud of who they are, connected to their communities, and confident in their ability to succeed. She believes education should create opportunities for students to learn from their families, Elders, culture, and experiences while building the skills they need for their futures.
