Aaniin Boozhoo (Hello and Greetings),

I am excited to officially introduce myself. Chett Monague NDizhnikaaz, Chmnissing N’Doojibaa, Anishnaabe Nini Endawoo. My Name is Chett Monague I am Anishinaabe from Chimnissing (Beausoleil First Nation).

I am a first-year student undertaking my Doctor of Chiropractic medicine at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. My future aspirations consist of advocating for health curriculum change and providing accessible healthcare to rural remote Indigenous communities. Before my student role, I have worked in higher education supporting Indigenous learners from K – 12 to all post-secondary levels at the University of British Columbia, Western University and from the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board as the First Nation, Métis and Inuit Student Success Strategist. During these previous experiences, I supported students, colleagues, and communities as they interacted with the education system and learned about the long-standing contributions of Indigenous peoples across Canada.

My educational background is from Lakehead University where I graduated with a Bachelor of Education in Primary and Junior education. Before my degree with Lakehead, I studied at Nipissing University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Honors).

As an Anishinaabe Nini, I have a passion for Anishinaabemowin, traditional art (Beading, Quillwork, eastern woodland style paint) and traditional dance (Grass dance style). As a life-long learner, I am excited to begin this new adventure and ready to soak up all of the new experience’s life has to offer. Finally, some hobbies of mine include Pokémon Go, jogging, working out, and baking.

I am truly honoured to be chosen as one of the recipients of the Shannen’s Dream Scholarship. I hope to honour Shannen Koostachin’s vision by forming positive productive relationships with everyone and I look forward to working hard to make both of our dreams a reality.
